The Forêt Blanche owes its names to the forest of larch lining the slopes up to an altitude of 2,200m. From this wonderful setting, the surrounding peaks and mountain ranges extend as far as the eye can see with views from the Maritime Alps to the Haute-Savoie, the Massif des Ecrins to the Queyras, and Mont Viso to Mont-Blanc. In homage to the peaks that encircle it, Risoul has retained the typical architecture of the region, with its slates roofs, wood-clad houses and mountain stone. Day-to-day life in Risoul remains quite unique, with its mix of winter sports, mountain activities and local life.
