The highest fortified town in Europe, and one of its sunniest with 300 days of sunshine a year, Briançon is situated at an altitude of 1,326m at the crossroads of 5 valleys. In 2007, it was voted the most sporty town in France by the daily French sports newspaper, L'Equipe. From the town centre, take the Le Prorel cable-car to the Serre Chevalier ski area. Enjoy some night-time skiing on the floodlit Vauban run or admire this impressive spectacle from the ramparts of Vauban's cité.
Briançon is one of the few resorts with its own casino, ideally located at the base of the ski area.
