Each rafting trip includes: personal equipment (wetsuit, life vest, helmet, wind stopper), team equipment (raft, paddle), transport, insurance and the services of a qualified and state-registered river guide.
The Hautes-Alpes rafting businesses offer outings lasting an hour and a half up to whole day trips (picnic included) on class I (easy) to class IV (extremely difficult) rivers.
So we know what we are talking about, a small group of us from the Comité Départemental du Tourisme tried our hands at rafting on the Guil.
May 2008: accounts, PR, after-sales, director… We were all in the same boat!
Once we had put on our wetsuits, booties, life jackets and helmets, Vincent from Queyraft briefed us on key safety and navigation points.
We set off under the benevolent gaze of the Château Queyras Fort. The descent got off to a gentle start, to give us the time to take our places on the raft and to try to coordinate ourselves.
This period of calm was short-lived, as we soon got to the Combe de Château Queyras. It was magical, but everything happened very quickly!
We alternated between areas of calm during which our guide explained about ‘life’ in and around the river – birds, insects and legends – and the fast-flowing sections (Millenium, Coupe Gorge, Ange Gardien, Triple Chutes, etc).
An absolutely unforgettable time was had by one and all!
It was so much fun, really cool and there was too much water for Florence (accounts).
It was great fun, a real high-adrenaline buzz, and a wonderful shared experience for Hinatéa, in charge of the département’s walks.
Awesome! According to Stéphane (webmaster).
